What is Jesus saying to us as stewards of his kingship?

News Travels
“Blessed are those who hear…” and get moving (Luke 11:28).
God’s Law was a covenant promising more. Laws are preparations for faith. Paul says the Law was our nanny: literally, our “pedagogue,” “child-guider.” The Law was to keep us in bounds until Christ brought faith that leads beyond all boundaries. The Law points us in the right direction; faith takes us there. Law-observance is a preliminary to being guided by the Spirit, which is an experience of faith.
Only promises justify the future. We live for what we look forward to. A present that is silent about the future has nothing to say to us. That is why good behavior can’t be an end in itself. Only God is happy just being good. And he can be only because his goodness is not static but infinite, without boundaries. God’s goodness is an interaction between Father, Son and Spirit that is always new. Like the Good News: once you hear it, you are forever caught up in the action. News travels.
Faith is absorption in mystery, in “truth that invites endless exploration.’ It is mind-expanding, dynamic, challenging, growth-producing. Faith leads us into God.
We experience “life to the full” (John 10:10) only when we make our religion a way of growth. Keeping rules won’t do it. We have to be wise stewards who “bring out of our storeroom what is new and what is old” (Matthew 13:52).
PRAY: “Lead, Lord, I will follow.”
PRACTICE: Inventory what the Church offers.
