Humility is Searching
What are we waiting for in Advent?
Is it for God to “open the gates” to a
“strong city,” where he will “keep in peace” those who “trust in him”?
The
city is open to “the feet of the poor, the steps of the needy.” Not to “those in high places,” who think of themselves as the
“right” kind of people because they say “Lord, Lord” and keep all the rules. Only
to those who long to “do the will of my Father.” For that we have to “hear his
words” and “act on them.” Keep learning and changing. We have seek relationship with God.
If
we keep Church rules but do not read the Bible, aren’t we proud? Thinking we
know it all? As if rules could reveal
the heart of God!
Rules are execution. Relationship is exploration.
Are
we really saying, “Blessed is he who
comes in the name of the Lord?” Or do we think Jesus has already come and
settled down? Do we keep “Advent?” Or just the rules? That is not “waiting.”
Are you longing for the “more”? Do you want to “hear his words” and “act on them?”
Do
you read them every day?
If not, what are you waiting for?
Pray (all day):
“Lord, let me hear your words and act on them."
“Lord, let me hear your words and act on them."
Practice:
Put the Bible on your pillow. Never go to sleep without reading one line.
Put the Bible on your pillow. Never go to sleep without reading one line.
